You came to the right place! Performing magic for children is different than performing for adults! You know someone who knows the difference. Kids don’t want to “watch” a magic show – they want to be “in” a magic show! That is the approach I take when designing magic shows for children.

Two Characters

I’m happy to perform the show as Richard The Magician, if that’s how your child knows me. I can perform magic shows for children either as Richard The Magician OR California Joe: The Explorer Magician.

I created California Joe for ages 3 – 11. As California Joe, I can give them something they have never seen before! There are sooooo many children’s magicians out there. Most of them are interchangeable. As an “explorer magician,” I can take the kids on a journey around the world, through time and space! California Joe’s Adventure Magic Show is perfect for birthday parties, schools, libraries, daycares, or any event where children are the main focus.

Teens and Tweens

For ages 12 and up, I perform as Richard The Magician. By that age, kids are too old for California Joe. I call it the “Santa Claus Factor.” Meaning, if they’re too old for Santa, they’re too old for California Joe. By this age, they really aren’t kids anymore. They’re young adults. That’s how I treat them. I perform the same style of show that I would perform for adults and at the Magic Castle. The content will, of course, be age-appropriate.
